Rare one-of-a-kind portfolio book collection of early 16th and 17th century original prints collected by Leonhart Wurfbain (1581-1654) a German scholar. The early portfolio manuscript consists of a total of 101 early engravings, etchings, woodcut and pen and ink portraits depicting important European scholars, historians, doctors of medicine, scientists, men of letters and religion. The early prints are either tipped in on a page or the full printed plate has been bound into a portfolio book collection assembled presumably for Leonard Wurfbain. Two of the 16th century engravings are by Albrecht Durer and include a portrait of Oelhafen of Schollenbach (1466-1538). Title: - Sixtus Oelhafen of Sch?llenbach (lawyer, around 1466-1539) after the portrait by Hans Sch?ufelein, workshop Albrecht Dürer. It is one of the many portraits made by a later engraver, in this case I. A (lexander) Boner with the Dürer monogram AD. The other Durer engraving is a portrait of Barbara Schedlin and dated 1524. The book title page in Latin reads: Leonhartt Wurfbain, Jur. D. aetatis etc. The binding is in poor condition and several of the pages have water stains or foxing. Measures 11 inches x 7.5 inches.
