Original color woodblock print from the series Kanadehon Chushingura (仮名手本忠臣蔵 十一). 11th act – The robbery. Oboshi Yuranosuke, Kodera Junai, Mase Magokuro, published 1862. Signed: Yoshitaki ga. Diptychon
Yoshitaki was the dominant Ukiyo-e-artist in Osaka between 1860 and 1880. He produced a plethora of brilliant actor leaves with great care and a rich color palette. He was known to be extraordinarily talented and created already as 13 year-old up to 16 plates of printed masterpieces. Beside the many actor pictures of his own making, he contributed around 1860 to the meaningful landscape series “100 Views of Osaka“. Additionally he designed several very beautiful Bijin depictions.
