拍品描述: Grey sandstone. Cambodia, presumably Angkor Wat up to Bayon period, 12th / 13th century A typical design with a naked upper body, a confident upright posture and the pleated sarong with a fish-tail fold at the front. The sarong is fastened with a belt covered at the front by a part of the clothing lapping over it, but stretched up at the back – a trend which already appeared during the Baphuon period. The seams of the clothing are embellished with rowed leaves and pearls. On the belt are stacked over-rectangular fields as well as pearled rows. The attributes are missing, hence it is not possible to define which goddess is depicted. Perhaps Uma (Shivas consort) or the Buddhist Projnaparamita. Despite missing parts, this somewhat smaller sculpture shows a beautiful delicate balance that was accomplished by the sculptural arts of the time. The figure was broken along the middle and later professionally reassembled and mounted on a metal base. HEIGHT (WITHOUT BASE) 35 CM Collection Sohel Ch., New Delhi – Vienna A noteworthy share of the antiques offered here – around 130 lots – originate from the Collection Sohel Ch., a successful business man from Delhi who spent many years in Vienna. The part of his collection, which we here offer, was mainly acquired in the art trade of Vienna. The chief reason for his collecting activity, which he perpetuated with considerable specialized knowledge, sense for quality and great committment, was to establish a private Asian museum in his native city of New Delhi.
