Lacquer technique with gold, horn and glass. Japan, 19th to early 20th cent.
The four-leveled inro (container for medicine) offers diverse kiku blossoms (chrysanthemum) in takamaki-e on a very fine grey-golden background. Highlights are in golden kirigane. The interior with red and black lacquer; individual tiers are very precise and harmoniously fitted.
The spherical ojime is light blue glass, the netsuke of horn with good patina shows a farmer crouched on a big rice ball.
