Lacquer technique with shibayama; wood. Japan, about 1800 - 19th cent.
Four levelled narrow inro, throughout in glistening black roironuri and shibayama, that is inlay technique with different coloured pearls. Theminute depiction offers a landscape with rocks, trees, lake with tiny sailing boats, and also huts or pavilions. The planes at the end are decorated with flowers. Some faults, otherwise good condition. The netsuke is older and shows the sambaso-dancer motif, wearing an okina-mask as well as an eboshi on the head and a also a fan. Traces show that the work was a saishiki netsuke with colour coating. The style suggests Osaka, perhaps the work of a follower of Shuzan. Patina and signs of age.
HEIGHT INRO 9,8 CM, NETSUKE 5,1 CM
