A RARE GREEN JADE TWO-PART HUANG, EASTERN ZHOU, SPRING AND AUTUMN PERIOD
This lot is from a single owner collection and is therefore offered without reserve

Exhibited:

China, ca. 6th-5th century BC. Of arc shape with notched edges and consisting of two separate parts. Each side is decorated with c-scrolls and comma spirals in relief. The translucent stone is of a pale green tone with small areas of brown veining and icy calcification. Pierced to both ends and with two further drillings at the connecting joints.

Provenance: The Collection of Sam and Myrna Myers, Paris, France. Acquired between circa 1965-2012. Inscribed with numberings at the joints.
Condition: Good condition with expected wear, traces of weathering and signs of prolonged burial, minuscule nibbling, smoothened chips, and natural fissures, some of which may have developed into small hairline cracks.

The huang was one of the most popular artefacts used to adorn the body in the Eastern Zhou period and has its origin in jades crafted during the Neolithic period by cultures which flourished in southern China. The most dramatic development of this ornament occurred at the end of the Eastern Zhou period.
