A GROUP OF FIVE MIXED-METAL MENUKI AND AN OBIDOMEJapan, late Edo period (1615-1868) to early Meiji period (1868-1912)The set comprising five menuki of various materials. The first, a copper and gold menuki of Kintaro atop a tame bear. The second, a shibuichi menuki inlaid in copper and worked in kebori and takabori to depict a lion and tiger. The third, a bronze menuki adorned in silver and copper hirazogan and incised in kebori rendering a small cricket on a pickled cucumber. The fourth, a mixed-metal menuki inlaid in gold and copper hirazogan and worked in kebori and takabori consisting of a frog amusingly engaged in kubihiki (neck wrestling). The fifth, decorated in gold and kebori depicting a cicada. The sixth, an obidome, made of shakudo and decorated in gold and finely worked in kebori to depict a sunflower with leaves mounted on an 18-karat gold (marked) base.LENGTH 2.0 - 3.7 cmCondition: Very good condition with minor wear.
