拍品描述
TWO GILT COPPER-ALLOY SNOW LIONS, TIBET, 17TH-18TH CENTURYEach expressively modeled in fine repousse work with arms raised, the larger holding in his hands a pair of jewels, the other with a collar around the neck, both with ferocious expression marked by large bulging eyes and the mouth wide open baring fangs, the smaller with a movable tongue. Their manes and fur tufts are neatly incised. (2)Provenance: Jean Lostalem, Galerie Slim Bouchoucha, Louvre des Antiquaires, Paris, 2011 (the larger). The Yantra Collection, Kathmandu, Nepal, acquired in the 1990s from a Tibetan pilgrim in the Kora of the Buddha Stupa in the Kathmandu Valley (the smaller). A private collection in Western France, both acquired from the above, and thence by descent. A copy of an authentication certificate for the larger lion from Galerie Slim Bouchoucha, written and signed by Jean Lostalem, dated 15 January 2011, confirming the provenance and dating above, accompanies the lot. A copy of an authentication certificate for the smaller lion by the Yantra Collection, confirming the provenance and dating above, accompanies the lot. Galerie Slim Bouchoucha was established in 1968 by Jean Lostalem in Paris, and specializes in Asian art, particularly from Tibet and India. The gallery is now managed by Lostalem's son Michel and situated in the vibrant Marais district. The gallery's longstanding presence and specialization have established it as a respected institution within the international art community. The Yantra Collection was formed by an Italian expatriate couple living in Kathmandu. They began to build their collection in 1982 and continue to this day, having turned their passion into an occupation. The collection has been discussed in important trade magazines including Arts of Asia and Orientations, and individual pieces previously in the collection have been sold by major auction houses.Condition: Overall very good condition with minor wear, traces of use, and manufacturing irregularities.
