A CIZHOU PAINTED FIGURE OF GUANYIN, JIN TO EARLY MING DYNASTY

China, 12th-15th century. The deity is shown seated in dhyanasana with both hands forming dhyana mudra on a waisted plinth, wearing a crown centered by the figure of Amitabha Buddha, a loosely draped long robe, a jeweled necklace, and a dhoti tied at the waist, all painted in brown and russet on a cream slip under a clear glaze.

Provenance: From a private estate in Upper Manhattan, United States.
Condition: Good condition with minor wear and firing flaws. Minuscule losses, few nicks, light scratches. Few minor chips to the foot.
