拍品描述
Painting with colors on textile. India, Rajasthan/Mewar, 19th cent. An attractive and rare, many-figured temple painting from the Jain-Hindu direction. Within a double circular border, like a mirror standing on a decoratively executed foot, a crowned Tirthankara sits in meditative pose. He is surrounded by four further jina (“conquerors“), as one also calls these Jain saints. The further painting shows all around on a red ground the park of a palace with trees, birds, pavilions and various figures, including the Hindu deities Ganesha with elephant head and four-armed Shiva as dancing Nataraja with drum and fire (no flower). In the vertical marginal borders: depiction’s of animals, precious objects and, upper right, a four-armed female divinity, presum. one of the Eight Mothers, Kaumari or Durga. Further above on the red ground are two large eyes. SIZE APPROX. 140 x 116 CM From an old German private collection
