UTAGAWA Hiroshige (1797-1858)

SHUNBAISAI Hokuei (?-1837)
SHUNBAISAI Hokuei, also known as Shunko III, was a graphic artist and ukiyo-e painter of third Osaka generation, active in the period from 1824 to 1837. His works deal mainly with portraits of actors, such as Kabuki artists, or show isolated figures against a monochrome background, with the focus on the emotional state of the actor. A touch of mystery, suspense or danger resonates in his works.
