KEISAI Eisen (1790-1848)
KEISAI Eisen was a Japanese ukiyo-e artist, who was also known under the name Ikeda Eisen or Ippitsuan. Eisen was specialized at works of ‘beautiful women’, called bijinga. His pictures are considered as masterpieces of the ‘decadent’ Bunsei era (1818-1830). In addition to landscape motifs also erotic prints and the well-known series ‘The Sixty-nine Stations of the Kiso Kaidō’, completed by Hiroshige, are found. However, among his best known works are the illustrations of beautiful women.
