A Chinese Famille Rose ‘chicken’ cup, probably late Qing period, depicting Jia Chang stamping his foot to call the chickens, in a setting of blue rocks and peonies, Jia Chang is shown facing the rooster while the hen and four chicks are shown on the reverse below a lengthy poetic inscription dated Qianlong bingshen (corresponding to 1776) in black followed by two seals, qian and long , in iron-red enamel, with apocryphal Qianlong seal marks in underglaze blue to base, 6.5cm high
Provenance: ‘Mr. Ko’ who worked for the Chinese Postal Service from 1904-1947 and then by direct family descent.
