Finely potted Chinese porcelain, having a deep vessel body, slightly flared rim everted from round cavetto with curved sides, and concave foot base. The exterior vividly decorated with famille rose design hand painting, in bright color of fruiting ripe pomegranates abundant with foliage against clean white background. The interior decorated in similar design to the center. Adorned with gilt overglazed ring on outer rim.
Mark on base, a six blue seal script -ZhuanShu- characters reign mark, QianLong Reign Period of Great Qing.
Pomegranate is symbol of Fruit of happiness for its red color, and symbol of numerous children for its many seeds. The Daoists attribute to it the same power as the peach of immortality. Buddhist good luck symbol. A picture is often a wedding gift, a special picture with one of these fruits shown half-opened. The meaning is a hundred seeds, or more completely, a hundred sons. The word for seed is zi, it is also the word for sons.
