19th C. CHINESE EXPORT SILVER ELEPHANT REPOUSSE covered tripod censer. Having bell shaped body with round cavetto raised the steep sides toward banded rim, raised upon three cabriole elephant masks shaped legs. The center body repoussed with dense of rococo lotus tendrils motif in relief, beneath band of meander patterned ribbon on rim. The openwork cover is pierced with lotus scrolls surrounding the finial cast as a recumbent elephant, wearing beaded jewels and draped by an embroidery, carrying a gilt treasure vase on its back. Flanked by a pair of handles in the form of caparisoned elephant heads with their trunks raised on the sides, extended its trunk upward, giving wider appearance.
