Property from a private European collection I'NAMI KEISHU (DATES UNKNOWN) A bronze inlaid flower vaseShowa era (1926-1989), circa 1975 The truncated conical vase with slightly everted mouth, the sides inlaid in silver or cast with four sets of, from base to top, seven, six, five, and four concentric rings, supported on a tall foot ring with small rounded-rectangular piercings, patinated to a fine brownish hue, signed on the base with cast characters KeishuWith a wood tomobako storage box signed and inscribed Senmon seido kabin ichi Keishu (A bronze flower vase with linear motifs, Keishu) and sealed Keishu, accompanied by a printed artist résumé concluding in 1975 12 3/8in (31.3cm) high 注脚 A native of Takaoka, a major regional center of metal art, I'nami Keishu first made his name in 1935 for his work on architectural fittings for Tokyo's National Diet Building; he also collaborated with the celebrated metalworker and historian Katori Hotsuma (1874-1954) on creating bronze offertory vessels for the historic Horyuji Temple near Nara. Starting in 1961, he showed his work regularly at the exhibitions of the Japan Traditional Crafts Association, receiving several awards. He is well known for his work with silver-wire inlay.
