Description Empty (uninhabited) Mountains. Inscription, dated 1976, signed Wang Wuxie. Wong is one of the leading figures of the New Ink movement in Hong Kong. In the 1960s, Wong studied at the Columbus College of Art and Design in Ohio and at the Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore. In his works, he combines elements of classical Chinese painting with Western painting traditions. He likes to paint his landscapes from a bird's eye view. With his meticulous brushwork and subtle treatment of light, Wong creates modern and impressive natural landscapes. His ink paintings have been exhibited in Hong Kong and around the world and are represented in major collections, including the Arthur M. Sackler Museum, Harvard University, U.S.A., Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, U.K., Asian Art Museum, San Francisco, U.S.A., Boston Museum of Fine Arts, U.S.A., the British Museum, London, U.K., and the Hong Kong Museum of Art.
