Ink drawing after a triptych by Yoshitoshi. Dated Meiji 13th year 6th month (1880)
This drawing was made after the right-hand section of a triptych by Taisho Yoshitoshi from a series with Japanese history motifs. On the sheet is depicted a tremendous, rolling wave wall, over which the head of a warrior towers from a foaming wave, as well a pleading hand. Further recognizable is a broken arrow. Date on the right and signature Meiji kanoetatsu rokugatsu Toshikata sha 明治 庚辰 六月 年方寫.
