Bronze. Khmer Empire, Bayon 13th cent.
In this very finely crafted Khmer bronze stands the Buddhist Avalokiteshvara on a plate, with broad shoulders and four arms, two of which are rudimentary. In both others are the attributes mala prayer beads and lotus bud padma. The bodhisattva stands on a square plate and is clothed only with a sambat, typically here with fishtail fold and large lotus blossom on both sides. Necklace around shoulders, diadem and tall hair bun. Very original condition, age characteristics and continuous green patina.
