Signed: “Painted by Wu Changshuo 吳昌碩 I in the year Yiwei (= 1919) during the severe frost in the age of 76 years”, 颜色孤山梅太好, 夕阳扶影自裵回. 已未大寒吳昌碩時年七十又六. Two red author’s seals. A powerful composition with rising trunks and contrasting vertical branches in black-brown colour, only some of them achieving the bright heights. Vivid red and luscious blossom create a lively impression of the blooming nature.

Wu Changshuo is among the most significant painters in China. It has been for long that his work is presented even in the important western museums like Ashmolean Museum Oxford or the Museum of Fine Art, Boston.
