Fire-gilded bronze. Tibet, 18th cent.
Very nice, little, completely gilded bronze of rare Damcan, also called Dorle, belonging to the companions of Mahapancaraja, the "five great kings". The by far most famous of this group and its leader is Pehar, also named Vajrasadhu. Quite similar and with the same characteristic head covering is also Damcan, sitting on his mount, while this is indeed a very amusing billy goat, composed with spirited head etc. Damcan is an old Bon demon god - in the bronze he presents the gesture to ward off demons and shows a ferocious face.
