Silver and gilding. China, presumably Tang (618 - 907)
An elegant small vase showcasing excellent craftsmanship, with a curved, flared foot, stepped mouth and a decorative frieze encircling the broad, spherical body. Various horsemen are hunting wild animals between trees and other plants in an entirely gilt depiction above a finely embossed ground. Age-related marks and patina – altogether very good condition, especially considering its age.
