拍品描述
Description Jean Beauduin (Belgian, 1851-1916 - active in France and Belgium). "L'Heure Rose," 1899. Oil on canvas. Signed lower right: Jean Beuduin, titled on the stretcher. A beautiful oil on canvas by Impressionist artist Jean Beauduin. The composition features a beautiful young lady wearing a full pastel pink dress with a lacy white shawl. She gazes over a garden wall to the view beyond. The gilded frame is exceptional as well; it was painstakingly water gilded.Water gilding is heralded as the Rolls Royce of gilding processes. This involves wetting the surface with gilding water and then applying gold leaf. It is a technique that requires immense skill, artistry, and perfect timing. Size (canvas): 23.375" W x 28.4" H (59.4 cm x 72.1 cm); (frame): 35.5" W x 40.375" H (90.2 cm x 102.6 cm) Jean Beauduin was a 19th c. artist who created genre scenes, portraits, and landscapes. He studied at the Academy of Antwerp and moved to Paris shortly thereafter to work as an illustrator for publications incudling "Le Figaro", "La France illustree", "Panurge", "La Silhouette", "La Chronique Parisienne" and "Paris illustree". Beaudin also created book illustrations for "En Pleine Fantaisie" by the French poet Armand Silvestre and "Audacious Women" (Les Audacieuses) by the Countess of Molenes among others. Beauduin also exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Francais in Paris as well as numerous exhibitions in the United States and Europe. During the late 19th century, Beauduin traveled to New York and Boston, selling his paintings at the most elite galleries of the late 19th century. Beauduin is known as one of the "petit maitres" of his day. His paintings include "Two Springs; Moonrise"; "Berenice"; "Pink Hour"; "Song of the Waves"; "Winter Evening in the Snow"; "Princesses from Legends"; and "Rush towards the Light". Beauduin's landscapes of Giverny, Spa, and Sannois capture the lovely soft light of dusk as was coveted by the Impressionists.
