AFTER THE MODEL ATTRIBUTED TO ANNIBALE FONTANA (ITALIAN, 1540-1587), SECOND HALF 19TH CENTURY Each with acanthus-cast nozzle over a circular drip-pan cast with winged demons and angels above a baluster stem further relief-cast with grotesques suspending floral garlands and frolicking putti, terminating on a spreading concave-sided square base supported by winged dog monopedia above male angels, on scroll feet 71 in. (180.5 cm.) high; 21 ? in. (54 cm.) square
This pair of large floor standing torchères are after examples attributed to Annibale Fontana, cast by the Busca bronze foundry, at the Certosa di Pavia monastery in Lombardy, northern Italy (see A. Venturi, Soria della Scultura italiana, Milan,1937, fig. 386).
