拍品描述: A FRENCH ORMOLU-MOUNTED MAHOGANY BASSE ARMOIRE BY EUGENE FRAGER, MAISON MEYNARD, PARIS, CIRCA 1890 The trapezoid brèche forneto marble top above a frieze with central relief-cast plaque, the cupboard door with an elaborate ormolu mount of a central dancing figure beneath a canapy held aloft by doves with floral garlands, enclosing two shelves, on toupie feet, with a metal plaque engraved 'MEUBLES D'ART/ MSON MEYNARD/ FRAGER Succr/ 50.FG. ST. ANTOINE. PARIS/ SièGES & TENTURES'' 5 ? in. (147 cm.) high; 46 in. (117 cm.) wide; 20 ? in. (52 cm.) deep The succesful firm of Maison Meynard was established by Guillaume Meynard in premises at 50, faubourg Saint-Antoine in 1812. In 1833, Meynard was joined in business by his eldest son, Guillaume-Mathieu, and the firm became known as Meynard Père et Fils A?né. The firm altered its name in various sublte ways as the next generations followed in their fathers' footsteps, until the business was sold the business in its entirety to Eugène Frager in 1889. Throughout its own long existence, and its continuance under Frager, Maison Meynard was a regular exhibitor and medallist at the Parisian exhibitions.
