拍品描述
A GEORGE II SILVER BASKET MARK OF WILLIAM PLUMMER, LONDON, 1758 Shaped oval on three scroll and shell feet, the sides pierced with alternating fluting panels of trelliswork and scrolls, with openwork detachable swing handle, engraved with a coat-of-arms, marked on border 14 1/8 in. (36 cm.) long 48 oz. 16 dwt. (1,518 gr.) The arms are those of Cunliffe impaling Wright, for Robert Cunliffe (1719–1778), later 2nd Bt., of Saighton, Cheshire, and his wife Mary, daughter of Ichabod Wright of Mapperley, co. Nottingham, whom he married in 1752. He succeeded his elder brother Sir Ellis Cunliffe 1st Bt. in 1767. The family wealth was based on Liverpool trade and shipping. Robert's elder brother from whom he inherited, was M.P. for Liverpool. Portraits of Sir Robert and his wife were painted by Francis Coates. They are now in the collection of the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool. His tomb in St. Mary’s Church, Bruera, was sculpted by Joseph Nollekens (1737-1823).
