A late George III silver vinaigrette, in the form of a handbag with floral chased border above stippled and engraved patterns to the whole, with link chain handle and the hinged lid personally engraved and opening to a flower pierced silver-gilt grille. Hallmarked Postans & Tye, Birmingham 1819. Length 2.7cm, gross weight 8.4 grams. Displaying some general expected surface wear, marks, scratches and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. A few minor surface nicks and bruises. Heavier wear around edges. Some surface rubbing to decoration but generally ok. Both hinged lids appear in good working order. Hinge of grille with slight movement.Main lid closes almost flush, slight gap remaining. Crack in metal to one of the hinge sections. Grille with slight loss to one corner. Does not appear to be hallmarked. Hallmarks located to base and reverse of lid. These are partly rubbed and worn, especially maker's mark, but still legible. Link chain handle does not appear to be hallmarked.
