An Indian silver mounted cup and cover or betel box, of ovoid shape above a knopped stem to a circular spread foot, with floral scroll pierced bands above further chased floral and foliate decoration to the stem and foot, the cover with an applied acorn shape finial surrounded by leaves and opening to a similarly decorated removable section with four circular apertures, original liner partly missing/repaired. Stamped to base with the maker's mark 'O.M' for Oomersi Mawji, Bhuj, Kutch. Maximum height including finial 10.5 (27cm). In poor overall condition in need of attention and professional restoration. General surface wear, marks, scratches and dints. Mounts are heavily tarnished throughout. Slight compression to foot. Pierced mount to cover is loose and the acorn shape finial has broken off. The liner was possibly originally an ostrich egg or coconutThe liner to the cover looks to have been replaced with papier mache and crudely painted. The liner to the lower section is possibly original but has heavy repairs and is also now brightly coloured.
