WILLIAM IV OR EARLY VICTORIAN MAHOGANY AND LEATHER INSET PARTNERS' PEDESTAL DESK IN GEORGE III STYLE, circa 1840, stamped for M. WILLSON, 68 GREAT QUEEN STREET, the gilt tooled green leather within an ogee moulded edge, above an arrangement of nine panel drawers to one side and three draws above twin cupboards to the other, all with turned wood handles, the pedestals each on four castors, 77cm high, the top 138 x 91cm Note: Thomas Willson is entered in directories as a furniture broker and appraiser of 68 Great Queen Street between 1821 and 1829. From 1830-37 the Great Queen Street business was continued by his wife Mary Willson & Son. After 1838 it is listed at the same address as 'Matthew Wilson, furniture warehouse, furniture work, upholsterer', until 1854. The stamp to the top of one drawer in this desk is therefore enigmatic, and could relate to either Mary or Matthew Willson, and given that the desk is in an earlier style, could therefore have been produced any time between 1830 and 1854
