This statue of jade war horse with motifs of dragon, phoenix and deity face is rare and identified by museum expert and collector friend as authentic.
The statue is made of nephrite. Evidence of authenticity is supported by differential weathering, cleaving veins, dissolved pits & diffusive markings.
The statue is made in the Warring States [戰國](B.C. 403-B.C.221).
The statue workmanship is of mastery workmanship quality.
Note the war horse is stepping on a square shield with the well-known motif of Tao-tie animal head.
Note also the style of the horse head with the front guard around the neck, showing western influence.
Indeed the heavenly war horse originated in the western region.
The horses were long sought after by various ancient empires, including Zhou and Han dynasties.

This statue is one of several rider statues acquired from an astute antique collector family with interest in archaeology. A seasoned antique collector, - Chinese professor from New Jersey, USA, who wishes to divest his high value estate collection.
