Beaton practiced his flattering portraits on himself using both time-release exposures and a foot-operated shutter plunger. A note from the Cecil Beaton Scrapbook attached to the backing suggests this portrait was a "time exposure" it is more likely made using the foot-operated shutter plunger. Lot 551 was a scrapbook with a number of often unique vintage prints collaged with memento's significant to his life. The sale in 1978 was material outside the negatives and prints sold to Sotheby's at that time. Good condition. Height of mount 10 1/2 inches (26.5 cm.) X width 8 3/4 inches (22.5 cm.).
