Blue and White Wine Bottle, Korea, 19th century, pear-shape with tapering neck, resting on a short raised foot, decorated with four roundels, each with a character collectively reading "je-hyun-ju-byeong," and a ring around the foot, recessed base, ht. 12 1/2 in. Provenance: Acquired in Korea during the early 1960s by the late Mrs. Poul Stengaard Hansen. Hansen worked from 1963 to 1965 as the Chief of Mission at the National Medical Center in Korea; inherited by the present owner. Estimate $1,200-1,500 slightly crooked, potting flaw with a bulge around neck, pockmarks, and clay impurities, surface scratches. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
