Rare Chinese Jade Rider on Camel, Zhou Dynasty (1046-256 BCE) Measurements: Length: 6 ? inches = 17 cm; Height: 7 inches = 17.5 cm; Width: 3 inches = 7.5 cm; Weight = 3 lb. 10 oz. Estimated Price: $50,000; Description and Research: This beautifully crafted jade statue of a nomadic “Hu” rider riding a camel is rare and unique. From the rider’s dress including the curly shoes and the hair style of the rider, this belongs to the Zhou dynasty period (1046-256 BCE). The body of the camel is carved with various auspicious motifs, including the phoenix birds on both sides. The double-humped camel from the western region outside of the Zhou region is generally the precursor of the crafting of heavenly war horses of the Zhou period. Authenticity report: Object is made of nephrite. Evidence of authenticity may be supported by differential weathering, additive crystals & dissolved pits. Object’s workmanship is of mastery workmanship quality. Microscopic research: growing crystals, traces of application of ancient tools (carving, drilling holes, etc) Provenance: A seasoned antique collector, - Chinese professor from New Jersey, USA, who wishes to divest his high value estate collection.
