Satsuma ceramic with gold. Japan, late Meiji Period until after
Very compactly crafted depiction with most diverse sacred magicians or immortals, all bearded, some with halo, also the patriarch Daruma with frond below. They are situated around a giant dragon, between its claws and wild head. Around the shoulders is an almost three-dimensional smaller dragon with raised head. The cross-shaped Satsuma shield is displayed twice on the very thick mouth. On the bottom resp. inscription, in which a. i. the script character Satsu (as it appears in Satsuma) is found, meaning "Buddha" and here pertaining to "truthfulness" as well as immortality. Bruises on the dragon heads.
