Satsuma ceramic with gold. Japan, late Meiji Period until after
Especially attractive painting due to fullness of the composition with numerous blossoms as well as condition of the piece. Many diverse flowers on the golden ground, each blossom contoured with gold lines. Many tiny golden dots - popular in the art of tenzogan - enliven the surface. The artistic vitality of the total design does not allow it to appear rigid or ostentatious. The gilded edge (lip) is lobed five-fold like a blossom. On bottom, signature KOSHI-DA 越 田.
KOSHIDA was from the 1880′s a productive manufacturer of best Satsuma ceramic and employed some of the period′s most talented artists for the intricate painting of the pieces. The manufacturer closed around the same time of the famous craftsmen in Kinkozan, but then resumed production again after the war.
