Satsuma ceramic with gold. Japan, late Meiji Period until after
The artist also demonstrates here his talent for compact, spirited design, in the direction of the Fantastic oriented composition. This piece is not circular throughout, but rather presents a main side. The form ist belly-shaped over a flared foot, the lid is highly domed with golden lotus bud. The kacho-e (flowers/birds-image) presents a pair of birds with elaborate, long tail feathers among peonies and hanging fuji blossoms. Also a lake shore view with pavilions is offered. On the other side, a sensitively painted lake shore, blossoms (coming down from above fuji = wisteria) and kawasemi birds. Lid is similar. On bottom, signature KOSHI-DA 越 田 and seal. Best condition.
