拍品描述: Southeast Asia, Thailand, ca. 1850 CE. An exquisite Bangkok Style (Ratanakosin) lacquer and gilt bronze Buddha seated in half lotus position with hands in the samadhi / dhyana / meditation mudra, atop a three-tiered, flame spiked throne with front canopy. Red pigment embellishes the tops and back side of the canopy. This sculpture is a quintessential example of the Ratanakosin style Buddha with its sharp pointed spire atop the head, flame-like motifs emerging from the shoulders and ears of the crown, beautiful robe with a floral design, elaborately decorated pedestal, and of course the brilliant gold gilding and highlights of red lacquer. Just look at those neverending details! Clearly this is a work of spiritual art that took hours upon hours to create! Fits within a custom, wood base. Small, original bronze rings attached to backside. Size: 12" x 8" x 4-4/5" (33 x 20.3 x 12.2 cm); 13" (33 cm) high on base.

The Ratanakosin style is the continuation of the Ayutthaya style that rose after the destruction of Ayutthaya in 1767. Wood became less important than it was in the Ayuttaya period, and bronze became the material of choice.
