Chased silver. Burma, 19th to first half of 20th cent.
Very densely embossed figural as well as floral, gracefully executed décor. The vessel with cover stands on a base with five legs in drop-form, topped by a depiction of a wheel-turning peacock, the symbolic animal of Burma. The relief further offers flowers and densely composed vines. Pairs of figures shown executing various movements on the cylindrical vessel, presumably scenes of a court performance. Rich floral ornaments in the areas in between. A smooth insert. Eight similar figures on the domed cover with precisely rendered minute details. At the very top on an openwork appendage, in the round renditions of birds and a dancer with a fluttering bird tail on her robe and bird wings on one wrist, partly in openwork.
