Jade. China, late Neolithic period, c.2200-1900 BC
Dominantly dark green jade with brown areas are presented toward the edge. This is similar to clouds due to long-term storage under the earth and iron content. Smooth, supple and not quite regularly ground outer rand, similarly inside. Both disc surfaces are smooth and polished, light corrosion resulting from age and storage undergound. 玉环 - 新石器时代晚期, 铜器时代早期, 公元前2200-1900 直径 8,2 厘米
DIAMETER 8,2 CM
From an Austrian-Hungarian collection
Accompanying this jade, is an expertise by Univ. Prof. Dr. Filippo Salviati. Also from him, is the following information about comparative examples from publicized excavations or offered from specialist literature: Similar small discs of this type have been found mostly in sites of the late Neolithic Dawenkou culture, often as part of ornaments composed of various elements in jade, such as the one discovered in 1971 at Yedian, Zoucheng City , Shandong Province, which also included jades shaped as the double disc pendant described below. For a colour plate of the ornament from Yedian, see Mou Yongkang, Zhongguo yuqi quanji - 1 Yuanshi shehui (Chinese Jades: Vol.1, Early Societies), Shijiazhuang 1993, no.34.
