Bronze. Tibet, 15th cent.
A very good and rare old bronze portraying Shadaksharin, who is a special form of the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara. His name refers to the "Six Syllables" the symbols Om, mani, padme, hum. Like an anjali mudra, the hands held together before the chest hide an (invisible) desired juwel, in both others are the attributes prayer beads and lotus blossom. The bodhisattva is wearing a five-pointed crown and necklaces and sits in vajrasana on a lotus base. Typical facial features for the time indicated. Age patina, later attachment to base. 青銅造四臂觀音菩薩像。西藏, 15世紀。高15.2厘米。
