Enamel cloisonné with gold. China, Qing Dynasty, Jiaqing, early 19th cent.
This rare splendidly hued tall vase pair exhibits hexagonal form with angular shoulders, tall, concave curved neck, diagonal flared foot and exciting diverse ornament. On the six wall sections are respectively dragon-like green mythical creatures (could also be phoenix) with tails like decorative arabesques. The flaming pearl between them takes the form of a “flaming” lotus blossom. The floral tendrils are generally close to dragon forms or horned taotie masks, as well as the large motifs below the shoulder, opening and within these. On the foot, leiwen meander, also often seen is the ruyi symbol for “long life“. On the delicate blue enameled bottom is a flaming pearl surrounded by heavenly spirals. 琺瑯加金造瓶一對。中國,清代,19世紀早期。高54.3厘米。德國舊藏。
