Yellow bronze. India, Maharashtra, approx. 16th cent.
A small tribal bronze from a house altar, presumably depicting the goddess Kali, who is a personification of time, but also a mother-goddess. She is holding a bowl, a disk and a weapon, wearing a long thatch on the back; a small baldachin above her. Pearl-seamed nimbus with horn-like applications. The small animal on which she is riding, is presumably a lion whose tongue is protruding.
