Gold and gilding. China, In the stye of the Tang to Liao-dynasty (until 12th cent.)
A supremely fine rendition of a vivid miniature work crafted entirely using gold plating and wires. The whole body is composed of fine braided wires allowing just enough space to see through the structure – fascinating workmanship! The back is jagged, the tail with a flaming pearl tassel. The head is movable, resembles a ferocious dragon and is comprised of numerous parts. The qilin, the Chinese ?unicorn“, has nothing in common with our unicorn and symbolizes universal benevolence as well as peace. 銀鎏金造麒麟跑像. 中國, 唐代至遼代, 12 世紀之前. 長約4.5 厘米.
LENGTH APPROX. 4,5 CM
