Bronze. India, Bastar 19th - 20th cent.
These three objects – in part with exciting decoration – would make the heart of any pipe collector with stylistic ambitions beat faster! But in reality they are little ladles, used to pour rice beer. Example 1 (the smallest): Spherical body. Ornamentation with fine spirals as well as ribbed and braid-like bands. Straight pipe with cuffs, through which little cross bars are attached (naturally cast altogether, it only looks like this). Example 2 (mid length): Large round head, bent pipe. Rhombs, floral abstraction, nubs, braid-like bands etc. On the vessel sides are two curved bands, on front a large rectangular field with a floral center. Example 3 (longest): Round head and long straight pipe. Also here braid-like bands and cuffs on the pipe. On the vessel sides are spirals with bands as well as an especially beautiful flower (or sun symbol) on the front.
Example 1: Length 19 CM, Example 2: Length 20 CM, Example 3: Length 24 CM
