Miniature painting with colors and some gold. India, Mewar school, 17th cent.
In this very delicately painted depiction, Maharaja is sitting together with his consort under a Baldachin and on a throne, leaning against a large round cushion. Behind them, a female servant holding a frond, and sitting in front of them on white blanket, two musicians whose sounds they are listening to. The one at the front is playing a zither, the one behind him has the head of an animal (fox?) and is playing bells or small cymbals. Trees and birds in the background, two rows of Devangari script above it.
