Ink painting on paper. Japan, 17th cent.
Mountains rise in the atmospheric fog-covered landscape, on one is a distinctive pagoda tower. In the foreground is a forested headland with wanderers, exciting in the suggestion with just a few strokes, both with walking sticks. A boat with a fisher poling, wearing a big hat. On the left side, migrating birds. Outer right, the signature MORI-KAGE hitsu 守 景 筆 and red seal. Kusumi Morikage was a student of Kano Tanyu, whose style he continued. His long active period was especially in the 2nd half of the 17th century. The landscape-formatted picture is elegantly framed with gold brocade. Ivory roller.
