19th century, American, probably Boston. Each chair has arched foliate carved C scrolls above the pierced panel back, profusely carved in deep relief with scrolling vinery, centering a large flower head. The back is joined to blocked, ring-turned foliate-carved stiles capped by acanthus carved finials. The down-swept arms with molded scrolled grips, raised on turned, acanthus-carved supports. The seat is raised on similarly carved legs joined by a box stretcher. One chair with losses and abrasion to both hand grips, resulting from a pet dog chewing on the hand grips. Chairs otherwise with original surface and rich undisturbed patina, very good condition. Size: 58" tall, 25" wide, 26" deep. Height of seat: 20". Provenance: Private collection.
