拍品描述
China. Finely cast with a pear-shaped body rising from a tall splayed foot to a gently waisted neck with an everted rim. The neck encircled by a band of crisply worked mythical animals reserved against a leiwen ground, separated by raised flanges, above a frieze of pendent stiff leaves enclosing ruyi designs and key-fret patterns.Provenance: Schoeni Fine Oriental Art, Hong Kong, 1987. An important Belgian private collection, acquired from the above and thence by family descent. The base with an old label inscribed 'Han dynasty'. A copy of the original invoice from Schoeni Fine Oriental Art, dated 10 July 1987, dating the present lot to the Han dynasty, accompanies the lot. The important Belgian private collection belonged to a professor at the University of Louvain and a chartered accountant, who travelled across all continents and consistently sought, alongside his professional activities, the intellectual pleasure of discovery. He began assembling his predominantly archaeological collection in the late 1950s and continued to enrich it over seven decades through the cultures he encountered until the end of his life, in October 2024. The earliest objects he acquired, in the late 1950s, were Paleolithic and Neolithic tools. His interests expanded to include Mediterranean and Pre-Columbian civilizations during the 1960s, and from the 1970s onward his focus gradually shifted toward East Asia. His collection was distinguished by exceptional professional rigor in its classification and documentation.Condition: Very good condition with expected wear and casting irregularities, distinct signs of burial, encrustations, areas of corrosion, small nicks, light scratches, few minor dents.
