Acher Eskenasy is a noted French scholar and collector of Asian and tribal art. Major works previously owned by him are now in important collections and museums, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Musée du Quai Branly in Paris. Martin Doustar is a Brussels-based art dealer and collector whose career spans more than two decades. He began his professional journey in the early 2000s with a focus on Modern Art, developing a keen interest in the ways early twentieth-century artists were influenced by 'primitive' art from Africa and Oceania. Over time, his connoisseurship expanded into archaeological and ethnographic fields, with particular expertise in the ancient arts of the Pacific, Africa, and pre-Columbian America, while also encompassing Asian material culture and modern masterpieces. He is the author of numerous scholarly catalogues and has organized thematic exhibitions on a wide range of subjects.Condition: Very good condition with ancient wear, casting irregularities, signs of burial, encrustations, corrosion, small fissures, light warping, few small dents. (2)Excavated ferrules of this type were used to cap the foot of ceremonial poles or weapons, such as spears. While serving a clear structural function, such artefacts also operated within a symbolic register, articulating the prestige, rank, and martial authority of its bearer. Similar surviving parallels suggest that such ferrules were conceived as discrete works rather than standardized fittings. Their formal diversity and inventive ornamental vocabulary attest to the technical sophistication and aesthetic ambition of Zhou dynasty metalworkers.Literature comparison:Compare a closely related bronze dragon ferrule dated to the Eastern Zhou dynasty, 5th-4th century BC, 5.7 cm long, in the National Museum of Asian Art, Smithsonian Institution, accession number S2012.9.2108. Compare a related silver-inlaid bronze ferrule dated to the Eastern Zhou dynasty, 4th-3rd century BC, 16.5 cm long, in the British Museum, registration number 1962,0514.1.Auction result comparison: Type: Related Auction: Bonhams Hong Kong, 24 November 2013, lot 479 Price: HKD 525,000 or approx.
