拍品描述
Expert's note: Bronze garment hooks from the Warring States and early Han periods are well known for their refined metalworking and occasional decorative inlays, most commonly in silver or gold. Examples combining multiple inlay materials are considerably rarer, and pieces incorporating four distinct materials—such as silver, gold, turquoise, and copper—represent the highest level of technical sophistication achieved by early Chinese metalworkers. The successful integration of these contrasting materials required precise control of casting and inlay techniques, reflecting the advanced craftsmanship of the period and the elite status of such objects, which were worn as prestigious personal ornaments by members of the aristocracy.China. Warring States to Western Han dynasty, 4th-1st century BC. The slender, rounded shaft is intricately inlaid with silver sheet and wire forming overlapping scrolls reminiscent of intertwined creatures, interspersed with spiral motifs. The upper end terminates in a finely modeled hook in the form of a dragon's head, similarly decorated and set with neatly inlaid turquoise eyes and nostril beneath a slightly raised single horn inlaid in solid gold with a copper-inlaid frame. The underside bears a circular button for attachment.Provenance: From a private collection in the United Kingdom.Condition: Very good condition, commensurate with age.
